Garland for the Banister

Now that I have an open staircase, I wanted to hang some garland up.  Last year I decided to try my hand at creating a deco mesh garland using a Tutorial I found at Miss Kopy Kat.  I purchased some white deco mesh and then some red and silver ribbon.  I spent several hours one evening (watching 2 movies with my husband) creating my garland.  I then tied red ribbon in bows to attach the garland to the banister with my Hubby's help.  I finished it off with large bows at the bottom of the stairs.

This year (like I mentioned before) my Hub's went on a green garland buying frenzy on Black Friday.  He felt that the garland needed a little something to make it more festive.  We added the green garland to the deco mesh garland and he was right, it did look more festive.

Here is the end result.

Christmas Porch Garland

My Husband and I bought our first home in the month of November 10+ years ago.  So right after Christmas that first Christmas season, I had a few days off work and decided to wander around the store Modern Display, that had all their seasonal decorations on clearance.  I was immediately drawn to these large rusty bells and decided to buy a few.  I purchased 11 of the bells (1 extra large, 4 medium and 6 small) for the original price of the big bell.  I didn't know what I was going to do with the bells, but I knew that I wanted them for my front porch the following Christmas.  The following year, I purchased some green garland and my Husband went to work hanging the garland and bells.  He found a perfect arrangement for them (adding permanent hooks on the ceiling of the porch) and so for the next 8 Christmases the Garland was put out.  However, after 6 years I felt the garland needed some additional color and while visiting Joann's one afternoon with my two young girls, I found the perfect flower garland to add.  It was perfect in my opinion.  It had red poinsettia's and white hydrangea's.  I waited until Joann's put all their Christmas garland on sale and then once it was 50% off, I purchased enough to cover the current green garland on the porch.

It was perfect and for the next 3 years this is how it remained:

Last year when we moved into our new house, my husband went out to hang the Christmas garland and just like the Fall garland, it was too short.  So he just hung the garland in a new design just between the two pillars at the top of the porch steps.  I loved how it hung and so this year I decided that I would add the 2 additional sections to the porch.  I started looking for similar poinsettia and hydrangea garland on line, only to find that the cheapest it came was $59.99 for 6 feet.  There was no way I could afford it at this price (considering I spend less than this 5+ years ago buying it at Joann's for all four 6 foot sections).  I decided I would have to create the garland myself.  So I purchased 4 sections of just red poinsettia garland during the awesome Thanksgiving sales going on and then purchased a couple of bushels of the white hydrangeas.  I set to work wrapping the green garland (which I also purchased during the Black Friday deals) with the red poinsettias and then taking sections of the hydrangea's and adding them onto the garland.  My Husband hung the old and the new garland outside and it looked great.  I loved having the bells only in the main entrance part of the porch and so I didn't add any additional bells.  My Husband also went on a green garland buying binge on Black Friday and we had enough green garland to add to the railing on the porch and inside the house, with still some extra left over.

Here is the final result:

I am thinking next year I want to drape the garland on the railing and add some red bows.  Plus finish the porch off with some silk poinsettias in pots by the door.

Turkey Shirts and Bows

A friend of mine had pinned a pin on Pinterest that had Turkey Shirts on it.  I then found a great Tutorial on The Ribbon Retreat Blog for some Turkey Shirts and bows.  I thought these would be a great to make for my girls for Thanksgiving.  I contacted my dear friend and asked her if she wanted to get together and make them, and she was as excited as I was to make these cute shirts.  I packed up my sewing supplies and ribbon and headed over to her house one day to make them.  We had so much fun putting them together.  The tutorial had the great suggestion to just baste the turkey's onto the shirts, so you could still use the plain shirts in your child's wardrobe.  I loved this idea and love that I can add them to bigger shirts next year as my kiddos grow.

$5 each

I also made a turkey headband for my littlest one using feathers instead of ribbon for the turkey feathers.
$6 for feather Turkey Bow or $8 for Headband

Wedding Dress Sash & Hair Piece

I had the great privilege to help my new Sister-in-law with her wedding ensemble.  She wanted to wear her Mother's wedding dress, but wanted to make some alterations to it.  She had me remove the sleeves and to make the dress more modern we talked about adding a sash.  I took on the challenge to do this task, even though I had never made one before.  The sash turned out fabulous and I also made a hairpiece for the bride out of the left over satin and added some lace and feathers.  The bride was beautiful on her special day.

Fall Pillowcase Dresses

Since my Brother was getting married and she wanted the color fall orange for her colors, I decided that my girls fall pillowcase dresses I made them 2 years ago (and still fit) would be perfect for them to wear to the wedding.  The night before the wedding as I laid in bed, I remembered that I still had fabric left over from these dresses and hoped that I had enough to make one for my baby girl.

The next morning I woke up early and went to my fabric stash to see if I had enough and to my delight I did.  I spent the next hour making my baby girl her own fall pillowcase dress.

Infant Onesie Gown/Dress - Blue & White

I have seen cute Onesie Gown/Dresses on Pinterest and Etsy since my baby girl was an infant and wanted to make one for her.  Due to lots of things going on in our lives at the time, I was never able to make her one.  I recently received an invitation to a Baby Shower and since the new baby is to be a girl, I decided that I would finally make a Onesie Gown/Dress.  I found a couple of Tutorial links on Pinterest, one at Banana Bear Blog and another at U Create.

I loved the finished project. I made it so the bow on the dress is removable for washing.  Now that I have made this one, I hope to make a Toddler one for my little girl.

I also made a headband to match.

Big Girl Headbands

My older girls really love to wear headbands lately, so I have made them a few new ones along with making them for friends, family and neighbors.

My Baby Girl also loves the new headbands and here is her trying to grab them while I take a picture, plus how she likes to wear them.  Such a cutie!

Over-the-Top Baby Headbands

This past September I went a little crazy making some over-the-top headbands for my Baby Girl.  She loved them.  The Gray Headband was more like a hat then a bow, but she loved it and my older girls could wear this one also.

Baby Headband in Gray:
Baby Headband in Purple;

Red and white Feather Headband:

The three headbands below were very simple.  I had seen the top flower pieces for clearance online and had to get them, as I felt they would make great baby headbands.  By just adding the elastic band, they are simply perfect and elegant.

Holly Hobbie and Dorothy

Here are some cute costumes I made in the past for my girls:

Holly Hobbie:

At the time I made the Holly Hobbie Costume, my then 5 year old daughter was really into watching the new Holly Hobbie movies.  So I found a pattern(s) on ebay and purchased them.  The first pattern I purchased said it had been cut and all pieces accounted for, but when I set out to start laying out the pattern, it was missing all the pieces for the dress, so I then used this Simplicity pattern I found on Ebay:

My daughter was so excited to be Holly Hobby:

Dorothy:

This same year, my then 3 year old daughter wanted to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, mainly because she wanted red sparkly shoes.

I used Simplicity Pattern 4139:

She also loved her costume:
